FRP combines the strength of steel, the corrosion resistance of plastic, and the formability of fiberglass, without the limitations of any of them.
Composite bond is non-metallic: there is nothing to oxidize. FRP is unaffected by chloride, sulfide, sulfate, or chlorinated organics that pit and crack stainless steel.
1/4 the density of carbon steel. Smaller cranes, simpler supports, less foundation work, faster site installation. A DN 1200 FRP pipe spool weighs ~90 kg/m vs ~290 kg/m for steel.
ASTM D2992 long-term hydrostatic regression validates a 50-year service life under operating pressure. Steel CW pipes typically need replacement at 15–25 years from corrosion.
Hazen-Williams C = 150 vs steel C = 100–120. Pumping head drops by 20–30%. No internal scaling, no biofouling, no MIC (microbial induced corrosion).
Initial CAPEX of FRP can match steel or be 10–20% higher; over a 25-year lifecycle TCO drops 30–40% from zero corrosion maintenance, lower pumping head, and no protective coatings.
